The City of McDonough is seeking a uniquely qualified individual to assume the position of Community Development Director. The City has a diversified land use development portfolio that is financially stable, estimated tax digest value of $1.1 billion dollars as of 2019, and is continuing to experience economic growth that is further enhancing its Quality of Life. The successful candidate will possess the traditional skill set associated with typical Community Development functions, such as planning, zoning, code enforcement, etc. However, it also requires an individual who possesses a background in economic development programs and issues with particular understanding of and demonstrated skill in successfully addressing commercial, residential, downtown development and redevelopment issues as well as an ability to coordinate efforts with external agencies and entities. Position supervises the Building Department and Code Enforcement division. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the City Administrator.
This position is required to attend several night meetings each month.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or closely related field from an accredited college or Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited institution of higher learning required in the field of Urban Planning, Public Administration or a related degree. A Master’s degree in one of the above fields is preferred; at least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in a community development related field with experience in supervising others; demonstrated experience in guiding planning and land use decisions and applicable knowledge of activities related to downtown development/redevelopment specifically; AICP certification or ability to obtain within 2 years, possession of a valid State of Georgia driver’s license; acceptable MVR; satisfactory criminal history; equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
