The Mayor and Council of the City of Locust Grove Police seeks a dynamic Chief of Police to command a police agency of 30members (24 sworn officers; 6 civilians). The department is widely recognized for being community oriented, innovative, technology savvy. Principal functions of the position include Administrative Services, Police Operations, Support Services and Community Services Divisions. Locust Grove is very much a quintessential suburban community located in the southeast portion of Metropolitan Atlanta along Interstate 75 within an emerging logistics, commercial, and services corridor growing in population between 7% - 10% annually. The Chief of Police reports directly to the City Manager who serves as the administrative head for the City of Locust Grove. The City Manager reports to a Mayor and six (6) City Councilmembers. The City has approximately 75 employees in a wide array of governmental and business services such as utility operations, general government, and economic community development. The land area is approximately 11 square miles with a current estimated 9,600 resident nighttime population and estimated average daytime population of over 20,000 due to key economic generators such as Tanger Outlets, the Home Depot and Radial rapid deployment/logistics centers, and a growing medical services district located strategically at our Bill Gardner Parkway Interchange.
The Chief of Police must have exceptional leadership skills along with a collaborative, team-oriented management style. The Chief must be a visionary leader with a sound business acumen and strong budgetary skills. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Public Business Administration, or closely related field; a master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of law enforcement experience including a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in law enforcement administration; Certified Peace Officer under regulations of Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.); equivalent combination of education and experience.Must be highly organized with excellent communication skills and a proven record of independent judgment. Candidates must have experience in strategic planning, performance measurements, community engagement and economic development.
Exceptional candidates will have completed advanced training through agencies such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Georgia Command College or equivalent. Must be certified or able to be certified under the Georgia Peace Officers Standard and Training Act within one year of service. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Georgia driver's license.
The City of Locust Grove will offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, based on qualifications, up to the midpoint ($113,740 +/-) of the established salary range.
