About the Position

The City of Chamblee seeks highly qualified applicants for the position of Assistant City Manager. This position is one (1) of two (2) Assistant City Manager positions reporting directly to the City Manager. The position serves on the city’s executive leadership team. Primary responsibilities include implementation of strategic initiatives, as well as management and oversight of assigned departments. This position has oversight of the Community and Economic Development, Planning, Code Enforcement, Permitting, and Parks and Recreation departments.


Primary Areas of Focus:

  • Redevelopment of the City’s Historic Downtown into a “Town Center” development via public-private partnership with the city, Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and private developers
  • Coordination with the Peachtree DeKalb Airport on the creation of an aerotropolis
  • Finalizing parking solutions and strategies for the downtown area
  • Attracting high quality jobs via investment in office, retail, mixed-use, and industrial development
  • Coordinating the update of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)
  • Implementing the Master Parks Plan to increase park space and programming
  • Align City-sponsored and community events with City branding and marketing goals
  • Innovate community engagement and communication

This position may fulfill functions of the City Manager during his/her absence and will collaborate with the City Manager on highly complex issues including development of strategic priorities for adoption by City Council and resolution of high priority concerns raised to the City Manager’s Office. This position will establish, monitor, and evaluate municipal operation performance.

About the City 

Located 14 miles from downtown Atlanta, Chamblee is a vibrant urban city with a diverse community and international flair. Located within the Metro Atlanta region, Chamblee encompasses seven (7) square miles, is positioned inside I-285, and boarders I-85. The City is home to a Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail station, DeKalb Peachtree Airport (PDK), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and a thriving business community with a unique sense of entrepreneurship and optimism.


Chamblee hosts a well-educated resident base with approximately 40% having earned a bachelor’s degree or higher, and 29% earning more than $75,000 per year. This family-orientated community situated in the DeKalb County School District is home to more than 30,000 residents. Children attend six (6) elementary, two (2) middle, and two (2) high schools in the DeKalb School System. There are also several area private and parochial schools that parents may elect for their children.

Our Strategic Statement

In the next three (3) years, we will focus on developing the internal organization, standards and procedures needed to consistently deliver premier services and projects that build a more vibrant community for Chamblee and our visitors. 

We will also deliver more than $55 million worth of new infrastructure to the community over the next five (5) years through the implementation of SPLOST and the Town Center Master Plan. The team will do this by working together in a creative and trusting environment.
