The City of Valdosta Finance Department is accepting applications for the position of a full time Accounting Manager. This position is responsible for: supervising accounting functions, the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, and customer service and business license functions; maintaining and implementing internal controls; assisting users across the City with financial and payroll questions and use of financial software; working with IT personnel to review and update business processes; assisting Human Resources personnel with technical payroll issues; tracking capital project expenditures; serving as point of contact for external auditors; and performing other related duties.



  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of business administrators.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, city ordinances and department policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in management and supervision, problem solving, prioritizing and planning, interpersonal relations, and oral and written communications.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
