Arlington Police Department – Chief of Police

The City of Arlington has a police chief position opening. The police chief applicant should be a Georgia (Basic) P.O.S.T. certified police officer at the time of application. All applicants may be subject to an evaluation process that includes a background investigation. The background check will include a credit examination, criminal history, driving record check, previous employment review, and a review of any other information deemed appropriate. Applicants must be able to obtain a Georgia driver’s license and be coverable by the city’s liability insurance carrier prior to a job offer. The candidate will be evaluated on his/her education and experience in law enforcement, management, and leadership.
The police chief reports to and is accountable to the city mayor and council. The successful candidate should have good financial management skills and is expected to operate the police department within the budget utilizing the resources available within approved spending guidelines and staffing levels
The police chief represents the Police Department and must be accessible to the public. The successful applicant should have strong communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive track record in motivating people. The police chief is responsible for enforcing discipline and city policies in a uniform and consistent manner. All applicants should have 2 years of experience in supervisory and management skills.
The successful candidate will be required to submit to a post-employment-offer fitness for duty medical examination and a drug screen. The selected individual must successfully complete all required training, including that required by O.C.G.A. § 35-8-20-1.
The annual base pay for the position is dependent on qualifications. The city currently provides a retirement program as well as other fringe benefits including vacation and sick leave pay.
