This position is responsible for performing a variety of un-skilled and semi-skilled duties associated with the construction, repair and maintenance of city streets, right-of-ways, storm water drainage systems, retention basins, bridges, facilities, properties and other sites under city obligation.  Operate a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in department projects and activities, which include weed cutters, blowers, mowers, chainsaws, dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, water truck, tractors and associated attachments and other related equipment.  Assist in asphalt and concrete repair and replacement.  Maintain storm water drainage systems.  Perform general inspection, cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition.  Respond to emergency situations as needed.  Perform traffic flagging duties at work site to ensure safe working environment.  Perform related duties. 

 

 

Qualifications

Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license. Skill in following written and oral instructions. Skill in the operation of power equipment, hand tools, assigned motor vehicles and related equipment. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in communicating effectively with others.

Miscellaneous Information

Work is performed while sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. Lift light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishes between shades of color. Work is typically performed outdoors. Exposure to cold or inclement weather, noise, dust, dirt, grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as goggles or gloves.
