Applicants selected will be required to be interviewed and perform an equipment operation field test. Please wear appropriate attire.

This position is responsible for operating a wide variety of assigned complex and heavy duty equipment including, but not limited to, small and large bull dozers, loaders, back hoes, track hoes, excavators, dump trucks, asphalt spreaders, concrete curb machines, motor graders, bobcats, etc., utilized in the construction, repair and maintenance of city streets, right-of-ways, storm water drainage systems, retention basins, bridges, facilities, properties and other sites under city obligation.  Train other operators in the operation of a variety of heavy and medium-sized motorized equipment.  This position has functional supervision over other equipment operators and assigned crew in the absence of the supervisor.  Performs various laboring and skilled, unskilled or semi-skilled tasks at work sites when not operating equipment.  Performs traffic flagging duties at project sites.  Maintains responsibility for assigned equipment or vehicle; cleans and washes assigned equipment and vehicles.  Performs related duties.   

 

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school education. Sufficient experience associated with having had a similar position for one (1) to two (2) years. Possession of a valid Georgia Driver's License. Knowledge and skill in the operation and maintenance of assigned motorized equipment, construction equipment, materials and methods. Knowledge of traffic hazards and safety principles, practices and procedures. Knowledge of proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment. Skill in comprehending and following safety rules and regulations. Skill in training and coordinating the work of others and in communicating effectively with others. Skill in understanding and following oral and written policies, procedures and instructions. Skill in performing a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed.

Miscellaneous Information

Work is performed while standing, sitting, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. Frequently lift light and heavy objects, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguish between shades of color. Work is performed outdoors. Exposure to cold and inclement weather, chemicals, noise, dust, dirt, grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as goggles or gloves.
