This position performs technical duties in the maintenance of parks and recreation facilities. Maintenance and repairs required for park equipment, recreation department grounds, and facilities. Performs repairs on all amenities provided in parks and facilities including but not limited to; benches, fences, playground equipment, grills, pavilions, swings, and picnic tables. Performs repairs on athletic grounds and equipment including but not limited to; Basketball goals, foul poles, scoreboards, score boxes, bleachers, and playing surfaces. Assists in maintenance of building plumbing, electrical and lighting systems, and structural repairs. Changes air filters and cleans coils on HVAC systems. Performs custodial duties including but not limited to; cleaning toilets, sinks, floors, stalls and waste removal. Assists with grounds maintenance of parks and facilities to include; mowing, weedeating, edging, trimming hedges, and other routine maintenance. Performs minor repairs on equipment used to maintain recreation facilities. Sets up facilities for special events. Performs related duties as assigned. The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, noise, and machinery with moving parts. Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge of building maintenance principles and practices. Knowledge of parks and recreation maintenance principles and practices. Skill in the repair and maintenance of parks facilities. Skill in oral and written communication.

 

 

Qualifications

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge of building maintenance principles and practices. Knowledge of parks and recreation maintenance principles and practices. Skill in the repair and maintenance of parks facilities. Skill in oral and written communication.
