SUMMARY: Acts as general accountant to the Board, having oversight responsibility of the daily accounting activities, including cash management, cash receipts, cash disbursements, payroll and general ledger.



  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
  • Maintain the general ledger by recording all receipts, disbursements, and preparing and posting journal entries as well as balancing all journals and closing the ledger each month
  • Direct all financial accounting including supervising the accounts payable and payroll departments in the day to day operations
  • Manage daily cash flow requirements and advise the Chief Financial Officer of potential cash shortfalls
  • Maintain all checking and investment accounts, including all transfers and oversee monthly reconciliations of all accounts
  • Oversee payroll reporting requirements, including Federal and State tax deposits, quarterly Form 941, Form W2, TRS and PSERS
  • Assist with the preparation of required State reporting
  • Provide accounting services for the Chief Financial Officer essential to the preparation and administration of the budget
  • Assist the Coordinator of Audits in gathering information required for the annual financial audit
  • Perform general system tasks on the financial software application (ERP or other), maintain data tables such as accounting chart of accounts, and modify user system/access profiles as needed. Acts as the system administrator for the district
  • Assist the Coordinator of Audits with monthly draw down requests and annual completion reports of State and Federal grants
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or another related field 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles
  • General knowledge of Federal and State grants
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in administrative technology, with extensive knowledge of spreadsheet applications
  • Hold or be eligible for a valid Support Personnel License (SPL) as issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission


Routine physical activities associated with typical office setting. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities. Vision, hearing and verbal communications are essential functions of this position.


Two (2) or more years’ experience in school system or governmental accounting
