The City of Thomasville, known as the “Rose City,” is located in southwest Georgia, approximately 35 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida. The City has a Council-Manager form of government with a five-member City Council comprised of the Mayor and four City Councilmembers. The City Manager is appointed by the Council and serves as the chief executive officer. The City is a full-service agency and includes general government functions such as Administration, Economic Development and Communications, Facilities and Public Works, Country Oaks Golf Course, Thomasville Municipal Airport, Main Street, Tourism, Financial Services, Human Resources, Public Safety, Regulatory, Technical Services, Information Technology and Utilities (Electric, Water, Natural Gas, Sewer, and broadband utilities). The City has 450 employees in general government and utilities with an annual operating budget of $123 million and a capital budget of $14 million. With no property tax, the City relies on enterprise funds to support city operations and community services. The City Engineer performs considerably independently under the direction of the City Manager and the Executive Director of Public Utilities and is responsible for the professional operations and management of the engineering department and municipal airport, including supervising 11 FTEs. Requirements include a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive engineering experience, with seven (7) years of experience in Municipal Engineering, Utilities Engineering, or closely related work. Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (Civil) in the State of Georgia or have credentials to obtain the same within six (6) months of hire date. Graduation from a four (4) year accredited Engineering School with additional training and certifications preferred. The salary is open, dependent upon qualifications.
