Summary:
Under the general direction and supervision of the Road Superintendent, the Equipment Operator is to support the operations of the Road Department, operate machinery to improve road conditions, and help to ensure roads are safe and in good working order for the residents of the county. This position will work closely with Road Department and Public Works staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate large and mini excavators to load dirt, dig ditches, bust beaver dams, and other needed operations
Perform light mechanic work on equipment when in the field working
Report on bad road conditions, mistakes in road work, and other items so that work
orders can be made
Safely operate all equipment in order to protect the residents and employees of Jeff Davis
County
Operate bulldozer, brush cutter, and other equipment when needed
Assist in non-equipment related work when needed
Keep equipment free of trash and clean
Report all mechanical issues to Road Superintendent and Road Mechanic
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Be 18 years of age
Pass a Background Check
Pass a Drug Screen
Poses a valid driver’s license
Courteous manner and ability to work with the public
Trustworthy
Quick learner
Ability to obtain necessary certifications for equipment operations
Dedicated
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience working with diesel mechanics
Pay:
Starting pay will be between $9 and $15 per an hour based on experience.
