The City of Social Circle is seeking a Director of Public Works and Utilities. This is a senior management level position, overseeing the functions of engineering, maintenance and operation of city properties and infrastructure, and management of the water, wastewater, and gas utilities. This position will also supervise the staff who manage the operations of the Water Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, exceptional leadership ability, and broad experience in public works, and utility system management.

The Public Works Director is appointed by and reports to the City Manager. The Public Works Department will supervise 25 staff and manage an annual operating budget of approximately $7 m. with up to $3 m of capital improvement projects.

Candidates should have demonstrated experience, professional excellence, integrity, and leadership ability, should be able to communicate and interact professionally and effectively in all situations, and should be able to problem solve effectively. The ideal candidate will be familiar with field operations, personable and service oriented, and able to create and sustain an effective and efficient work group through leadership, training, collaboration, and personnel management.
Preferred qualifications include Class I operator for Water and Wastewater Treatment plants, experience in public works projects and roadway maintenance, familiarity with public utility (water, wastewater, and gas) system management and regulatory requirements, and the ability to effectively utilize appropriate professional consultants while maintaining City priorities and the ability to collaborate effectively with regulators to achieve excellence in compliance in all areas.
Salary is negotiable depending upon qualifications and experience. The City offers an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and defined benefit retirement.
