Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing accounting duties that require intermediate accounting skills and analytical skill.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Runs Pooled Cash and Open Item Reports daily, and resolves any discrepancies. 


  • Assists in maintaining the county general ledger, prepares journal entries, performs account analysis, and reconciles all bank accounts to the general ledger. 


  • Prepares and maintains billing records for reimbursement from county departments and other agencies.


  • Reconciles Solid Waste Accounts Receivable, EMS, and Curbside accounts receivables.


  • Reconciles fixed assets to the general ledger and prepares schedules for audit.


  • Prepares Statistical Section of annual financial report.


  • Assists in purchasing card administration.


  • Prepares monthly usage report and journal entry for central supplies, copier usage, and postage.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting procedures, rules, and regulations.


  • Knowledge of data entry procedures and computer functions.


  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.


  • Knowledge of the techniques of establishing and maintaining files.


  • Knowledge of relevant county ordinances and department policies and procedures.


  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.


  • Skill in problem solving.


  • Skill in reading and interpreting budgets and financial reports.


  • Skills in utilizing a personal computer, typewriter, calculator, copier, and telephone,


  • Proficiency in Excel.


  • Skill in preparing and maintaining reports and records.


  • Skill in interpersonal relations.


  • Skill in oral and written communication.


Education, Experience, and Certification Requirements


  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an A.S. in Accounting or having had a similar position for three to five years.


  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia or State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.


  • Ability to be bonded.
