E-911 Assistant Director

JOB SUMMARY:The purpose of this classification is to supervise the daily operations of the E911 Center, to assist in planning, budgeting and coordinating the work functions of the Center; and to assist with local emergency management operations.




•Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems.

•Manages the day-to-day operational functions of the County E911 Center to provide effective and timely emergency services County wide.

•Monitors and evaluates department services and operations; prepares work schedules to ensure adequate staffing.

•Assists in developing and administering the departmental budget; reviews and approves bills, invoices, and purchase orders.

•Provides assistance in planning, organizing and deploying local emergency management activities; coordinates emergency management programs and activities associated with preparation for, response to, and recovery from natural or man-made disasters or emergencies affecting lives and property of citizens.

•Performs administrative tasks; supervises and trains volunteers; maintains equipment; prepares emergency management articles for publications; creates and distributes informational brochures and hand outs.

•Performs a variety of assessments to determine or recommend protective action required for safeguarding the community and its citizens.

•Supervises and coordinates various computer systems and projects; serves as Primary Terminal Agency Coordinator for GCIC/NCIC networks; supervises MSAG, CAD and mapping projects.

•Assists in maintaining and operating the Emergency Operations Center.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public/Business Administration or closely related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in emergency communication services; training, education, public safety, disaster preparedness, emergency management or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 


Must possess (or acquire within 12 months) and maintain the following certifications: P.O.S.T. Instructor, First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, and Certified Emergency Manager (CEM). Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
