The City of Milton is looking for a highly qualified individual to serve as our Permit Tech.

The Permit Technician assists the public by providing information at the counter, electronically, or by telephone in response to relatively routine questions regarding land disturbance regulations, land disturbance permit application, building ordinances and codes, building permit application process and procedures; assists the public in completing applications and other necessary forms; reviews applications.

Typical duties include:

  • Providing the public information related to land development and building permit applications and inspection services.
  • Receiving land development permit applications, providing customer service, imputting and retrieving permit data, and issuing permits;
  • Accepting construction plans and plan documents for permit processing, and calculating fees for plan review, building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and other types of building permits. 
  • Logging and processing complaints.
  • Verifying completion of land disturbance and building applications submittal prior to acceptance. 
  • Reviewing, approving and issuing less complicated, non-structural permits over the counter.
  • Administering field inspection scheduling system.
  • Performing other related duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:     A high school diploma or GED equivalency with two years of experience working in a building or planning department or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge. Must currently possess ICC Permit Technician Certification or be able to attain the certification within one year.
