Job Summary:

The Paramedic must be able to provide a high level of pre-hospital advanced emergency medical care to sick and injured patients of all ages. This includes care at the scene and while en route to an Emergency Department. They will aid on fire scenes as needed for personnel medical monitoring, rehab and assisting with moving equipment such as ladders, hose, etc. when needed.

Major Duties:

  • Complies with State Office of EMS Standards and DNV Standards. 
  • Adheres to department-specific Infection Control guidelines. 
  • Exhibits an understanding of the Compliance Program and is willing to report compliance issues. 
  • Follows all HMC and departmental policies and procedures. 
  • Understands and demonstrates compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Complies with all DNV Patient Safety Standards. 
  • Recognizes and reports patient safety issues via appropriate channels and assists HMC in maintaining a patient safe environment. 
  • Maintains department-specific safety issues.
  • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods. 
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. 
  • Ability to set priorities, solve problems, and respond quickly to emergency requests. 
  • Ability to assist in meeting the pre-hospital emergency care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, obstetric, rehabilitation, and skilled-nursing patients.
  • Rescues accident victims utilizing the appropriate extrication methods and equipment.
  • Administers first aid and CPR.
  • Inspects assigned apparatus and equipment; cleans, repairs, and performs routine maintenance on same.
  • Drives emergency vehicles.
  • May serve as incident commander until relieved by a senior officer.
  • Performs housekeeping, building maintenance, and grounds keeping duties.
  • Participates in and assists with training sessions.
  • Prepares incidents reports, gas and vehicle maintenance logs, and other reports.
  • Performs all pre-hospital patient care in compliance with the Habersham County Emergency Services patient care protocols, as approved by the Emergency Services Medical Director.
  • Performs daily inspections of ambulances and on-board supplies and equipment and restocks after each call.
  • Completes the State required Patient Care Report on each call dispatched.
  • Drives and controls an ambulance.
  • Completion of monthly educational requirements and training, including Health Stream
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, reason and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Paramedic Certification required.
  • Current Paramedic registration in the State of Georgia.
  • Current CPR, ACLS, Pedi and Adult Trauma Course and NIMS compliant.
  • Must have at least two hours of Stroke Education annually, to include Activase, stroke diagnosis, and treatment.  

The successful candidate must complete a Background/Reference Check, Pre-Employment Drug Screening.
