JOB SUMMARY 

An employee in this position provides management, coordination, planning, and implementation of short and long range citywide multimodal studies, programs, and projects. Work involves transportation network maintenance and upgrades as well as new construction projects. Employee is under Chamblee Public Works but will coordinate with the City Manager’s Office and the Planning and Development Division.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implements projects within the Chamblee Multimodal Transportation Plan
  • Administers the neighborhood traffic calming program and provides customer service to residents regarding speeding, volume, traffic safety and pedestrian safety.
  • Manages the annual repaving contract, road resurfacing, and striping projects.
  • Coordinates traffic volume, speed, corridor, and intersection studies.  
  • Coordinates with GDOT, ARC, MARTA and local jurisdictions on multimodal and transportation-related issues.
  • Manages new sidewalk design and construction, existing sidewalk maintenance projects, and curb ramp upgrades.
  • Implements bicycle network design and construction projects.
  • Manages road diet studies and implementation strategies.
  • Coordinates with contractors for enhanced signal timing and intersection upgrades.
  • Manages mobility and smart transportation related projects.
  • Develops request for proposals and invitations to bid and oversees consultants and contractors regarding planning, design, and construction contracts. 
  • Prepares and manages cost estimates and project budgets.
  • Coordinates Public Works projects as directed by the Public Works Director.
  • Maintains records, analyzes data and prepares comprehensive reports.
  • Attends public hearings and committee meetings to furnish expert advice or information or to make presentations.
  • Reviews and approves project schedules, coordinates reporting systems and administrative procedures.
  • Performs special studies as assigned by the department head.
  • Acts as liaison with other governmental agencies, citizen advisory groups, and other City departments.
  • Prepares and submits grant applications.
  • Confers with officials, engineers, contractors, and others at all levels of government and private industry.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience 
    Requires a bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Project Management or a closely related field and three (3) years of supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Licenses or Certifications

  • Must have or be able to obtain Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Must have or be able to obtain GDOT LAP certification, and APWA CPWM certification.
  • Must hold a current, valid State Driver’s License.
