The Executive Director of Programs for Exceptional Students (PES) provides leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating a full continuum of educational services for students with disabilities for the Muscogee County School District. The role provides information and serves as a resource to others while serving as a member of the district leadership team.

The Executive Director of Programs for Exceptional Students (PES) serves as a resource for parents/legal guardians, principals, psychologists, and teachers regarding a variety of needs and issues related to disabilities and ensuring proper placement of students with disabilities. The Executive Director also serves as a resource for the State Department ensuring that all state and federal regulations are followed in carrying out services for disabled students. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The collection and monitoring of data to develop and evaluate programs for compliance purposes.
  • Responsible for accurate CPI Reporting, FTE, Pre-School, and Transition Programming. 
  • Leads all initiatives ensuring the effective assignment of students to provide resources effectively.
  • Facilitates disputes and resolutions in all areas of Special Education
  • Develops annual budgets and goals for state and federal grants ensuring the accuracy of all fiscal records
  • Develops and implements Special Education guidelines and procedures and effectively communicates with all stakeholder groups.
  • Partners with the Chief Student Services Officer for expansion initiatives of the Special education programs and services
  • Oversees the development and implementation of various vendor contracts

To be successful in this role, you need to be collaborative and comfortable working on a team while strategically developing strategies to meet the needs of short and long-term goal planning related to the Programs for Exceptional Students. This role will be forward-facing and embrace building relationships throughout Columbus but across Georgia as well. The Executive Director will serve as a thought partner and ensure continued innovation around providing resources to our students with disabilities and all stakeholder groups.
