The Economic Development Specialist is responsible for managing the special event permit application program and associated work processes. The role also provides support to the various economic development programs by working proactively to create a business environment conducive to growth and expansion in the City. Respond to requests for information from prospects, and assist potential new businesses in their startup needs. Builds and maintain relationships with the local business community, partner organizations, and other key stakeholder groups.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Economic Development Specialist has the following responsibilities:

  • Administers City Code in processing special event permits; maintains forms, records, reports, files, databases, spreadsheets, and logs to support work processes for special event permitting; coordinates with other departments and jurisdictions as necessary.
  • Provides excellent customer service; receives and screens all special event permit inquiries; researches and responds to requests within 24-hours; facilitates a consistent and predictable application process.
  • Respond to requests for information from business prospects, facilitate local business attraction, expansion, and retention initiatives, conduct business evaluations and surveys, assists business with questions related to other city services, and provide general economic development assistance to the business community.
  • Prepare information and reports for audiences including City Council, Sandy Springs Development Authority, regional partners, the business and development communities, and others.
  • Regularly update print and digital marketing materials including the economic development website; responsible for the creation and distribution of outreach and marketing campaigns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing local businesses, the community, prospects, consultants, company decision makers, regional partners, brokers, property owners, and other key stakeholders. 
  • Represent the City and department through participation in community events. Attend chamber luncheons, networking events, local and regional meetings to represent the City and build relationships, promote economic development priorities, and generate leads for new businesses.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current policies, procedures, codes, regulations, and other critical information.
  • Provide support for other initiatives and activities as assigned in accordance with the Strategic Economic Development Plan.
