The City of Boston currently provides paid retirement, Insurance Stipend. The position is primarly responsible for the duties of the Clerk of Court, however, they candidate will assist with other duties as assigned by the City Clerk.

Municipal Court Clerk / Assistant City Clerk

Job Description

Municipal Court Clerk

  • Answers directly to the Chief of Police and Municipal Court Judge for all job functions related to the operation of the Municipal Court
  • Formulates work methods and practices to ensure efficient operation of the Municipal Court Clerk’s Office
  • Identifies Training needs and maintains all required Municipal Court Clerk Training as set forth by the Georgia Municipal Court Clerks Association and Georgia Law.
  • Establishes and develops goals and objectives and ensures that the goals and objectives are reached.
  • Prepares annual budget recommendations for the Municipal Court Clerk and associated positions
  • Prepares the Court Municipal Court Docket to include, First Appearance, Bench Trial, and Follow-up or Compliance Cases.
  • Assures that all citations and pertinent paperwork are ready for Court and for review by the Municipal Court Judge
    • To include but not limited to citations, incident reports associated with citations, accidents reports associated with citations, Criminal History Information, Driver’s History Information, and any other related document for each case.
  • Ensures a timely report all dispositions and adjudications imposed by the Judge of the Municipal Court of Boston.
    • To include the electronic submission of all dispositions and orders of the court.
  • Ensures the timely issuance of all Bench Warrant and Contempt of Court Orders issued by the Judge of the Municipal Court of Boston.
  • Takes and records all fines and fees paid for citations issued by Boston Police Department and State Law Enforcement Agencies within the jurisdiction.
  • Research information relating to citations and other related matters of the court.
  • Ensures that all paper-based and electronic files applicable to the Municipal Court and maintained and current.
  • Verifies that all citations transmitted electronically are filed and prepared for the court in a timely manner
  • Ensures that the Court Docket and Trial Calendar is completed and ready for review and case preparation prior to the close of Business on the Friday before the scheduled court date.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to the achieve the requirements of this job.
  • Must obtain certification as a Notary Public within sixty (60) days of employment with the City.
  • Must Possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to manage multiple items and tasks at the same time; prioritize and meet recurring and time period restraints.
  • Must be able to maintain Confidentiality and obtain CJIS Network Security Awareness Certification and CJIS Network Operator Certification within 30 days of employment with City.
  • Must be able to prepare clear, concise, and accurate documents.
  • Must possess the ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and explain adopted codes, ordinances, and policies that relate to City operations and Municipal Court operations.
  • Ability to use Office Software, Court Management Software, and other related officer equipment efficiently and without direct supervision
  • Ability to complete tasks and required work without direct oversight and supervision.
  • Required to perform other duties as requested, directed, and or assigned


Assistant City Clerk

  • Answers directly to the City Clerk for all job functions related to the position of Assistance City Clerk
  • Collects and records all fees and payments for Utilities, Licenses, Permits and other activities related to the business operations of the City of Boston
  • Assists in preparation and distribution of Invoices and Utility Billing.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of reports and documents as directed by the City Clerk or Mayor and Council
  • Answers the phone and or electronic correspondence
  • Provides guidance in applying for Utility Accounts, Permits, Licensing
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of business English and Math
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with officials, department heads, civic leaders, and the public.
  • Ability to learn and maintain the knowledge of state laws, practices and procedures relating to public records, open records, and public meetings.
  • Ability to operate Utility Billing Software and Office Software programs and equipment.
  • Perform all other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by the City Clerk or Mayor and Council.
