CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION

 

CLASSIFICATION TITLE:        EQUIPMENT OPERATOR, SENIOR

 

 

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

 

The purpose of this classification is to operate motorized equipment and trucks in the maintenance and repair of County roads, right of way, street signs, and other assigned projects.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Drives and operates a variety of motorized equipment and trucks in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, right of way, roadway structures, and other Public Works projects. Assigned projects may include repairing, maintaining and constructing roads; painting roadway markings and lane lines; clearing catch basins; installing and repairing driveways and driveway pipes; repairing and maintaining street signs, other markings and right of way structures; and patching potholes.

 

Operates a variety of motorized equipment and trucks to include back hoes, track-hoes, motor graders, track loaders, dump trucks, drill press, air gun, and tampers.

 

Performs semi-skilled and manual labor to complete assigned road projects; and uses varied hand and power tools such as shovels, chain saws, post drivers, and rakes.

 

Picks up and transports materials, tools and supplies; hauls gravel and other materials, and removes work-site and street debris; cleans and washes equipment and tools; performs preventive maintenance on tools, equipment and vehicles; and notifies supervisor of needed replacements and repairs.

 

Flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; and follows safety practices and wears protective gear.

 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to two (2) years previous experience involving equipment operation and roadway maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License.

 

Annual salary: $40,435.20
