JOB TITLE: Electric Lineman
PAY: $26-29/hr depending on experience
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, alteration and repair of overhead electrical lines, underground cables, electrical substations, and related electrical equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Constructs and maintains overhead electrical lines; repairs sagging wires and removes tree limbs in contact with electrical lines.
- Operates and maintains electrical substations, including breakers, regulators, and switches.
- Installs three-phase and single-phase transformers, meters, and switches to provide commercial and residential electrical services, including temporary services.
- Responds to customer service calls related to power outages, accidents, fires, and weather conditions.
- Performs safety inspections of trucks and equipment.
- Remains on call as required.
- Installs and maintains streetlights, including overhead and underground lighting and residential and commercial security lights.
- Assists with the duties of other city utility crews as needed.
- Reads electrical and water meter for billing purposes as needed.
- Attends training and school as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of electrical construction, maintenance and repair practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of safety procedures of the electrical trade.
- Skill in the use of such tools and equipment as chippers, chainsaws, backhoes, trenchers, and compression tools.
- Skill in working with high voltage electrical wires.
- Skill in operating bucket and line trucks.
- Skill in climbing utility poles.
- Skill in utilizing line locator, fault locator, recording voltage meter, and other specialized tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with 1-3 years of experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
