The Macon Water Authority has an immediate opening for a Communications Specialist. The starting salary for this position is $75,200. We offer an excellent benefits package.

The purpose of this position is to coordinate and deliver external and internal information and education programs regarding water utility activities and services. Works closely with the MWA Public Communications Consultant to execute communications. Works directly with internal MWA partners, including the President & Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Produces monthly employee newsletter, determines layout and design for each issue; utilizes graphic design software; write articles and messages; takes photos; submits draft for approval; prepares and submits documents for distribution.
  • Prepares and coordinates content for internal communications; creates presentations and materials; uploads information and data slides, documents, and video; creates, designs, and publishes advertisements.
  • Coordinates and manages the website and all other social media. Updates social media content as needed. Monitors activities, such as pages likes, post engagement, reach, page responsiveness, comments, number of followers, etc.
  • Assists with developing, coordinating and promoting special events. Assists in planning campaigns and events. Creates flyers, graphics, and other collateral materials; gathers educational materials; takes photos at events; represents MWA at events; and publishes photos and other information after event is completed.
  • Develops storylines, scripts and editing components for video compilation; participates in storyboard creation; makes recommendations and provides input regarding storyboards and drafts of videos; and shoots video for internal purposes.
  • Represents MWA in internal and external meetings regarding organizational and departmental activities.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
  • Operates computer to enter, retrieve, review and/or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions of the job.
  • Creates and maintains positive relationships with local media, community organizations and civic groups.
  • Communicates with supervisor, other MWA employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations required.
  • Demonstrated experience with graphic design, marketing, communications, and videography.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively and articulate clearly with others.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
