The City of Porterdale is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to join a collaborative team that works together with our citizens to maintain a healthy community. Under the direction of the City Manager, the Code Enforcement Officer enforces city codes and ordinances, investigates complaints and violations, issues warnings and citations and educates the public regarding code compliance. As a Building Inspector enforces the state minimum building standards
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections to determine compliance or non-compliance with City ordinances and building codes
- Meet with owners, tenants, contractors, developers, businesses; gather evidence; compare facts to code requirements; document findings.
- Issue code compliance notices, correction notices, citations/summons and perform follow-up site inspections as needed.
- Maintain a variety of logs and records related to inspection and enforcement activities;
- Prepare reports of outstanding cases, disposition of complaints, forms, correspondence, code violation history, citations and other related documents.
- Make determinations regarding the repair or demolition of buildings; presents information to Council for consideration; oversees repair or demolition of structures as directed.
- Perform various tasks involving court related proceedings: prepares related documents and reports to assist in building and documenting case information; interview witnesses; prepare evidence for court cases; and testify in court.
- Maintain comprehensive and current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards: maintain awareness of code enforcement methods, practices, trends and advances in the profession; read professional literature; maintain professional affiliations; and attend workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
- Assist in completing administrative reporting and document preparation and the issuance of building permits.
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate Degree in Zoning, Urban Planning, or related field preferred
- Two (2) years experience in code enforcement, building inspection, investigations, plan review or related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, GACE-Georgia Association of Code Enforcement Certification within 3 years of employment or equivalent IPMC Certification through ICC. Preference will be given to candidates that also have ICC building inspection credentials.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight
- Exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, heights, confined spaces, or rude/irate customers
Background check, Motor vehicle history, and Pre-employment drug screen must be successfully completed.
Base Pay Range $23.00 - $29.00 hour. Rate determined based on experience and education.
