This position is responsible for leading the implementation of holistic community development plans at all scales – from neighborhoods to blocks, from streets to mixed-use developments. The projects will include investments in housing, educational facilities, commercial developments and public infrastructure. Management of these projects will include collaborating with other City of Atlanta agencies, external partners, and a variety of funding sources. This would be accomplished with very general supervision from the Assistant Director, Neighborhood Economic Development.
General Description & Classification Standards
The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning (DCP) is committed to supporting the City’s commitment to ensuring that all residents live in healthy, thriving and accessible neighborhoods. To advance that goal, the City is working with neighborhood leaders to develop and implement revitalization plans that will reverse the cycle of disinvestment in our most distressed communities. These plans include at-scale investments in housing, educational facilities, commercial development and public infrastructure. To execute these plans, the City is collaborating closely with other local agencies – including the Atlanta Public Schools, Atlanta Housing, MARTA, Atlanta BeltLine Inc. and Invest Atlanta – to finance and implement these investments.
DCP’s Office of Housing and Community Development will serve as the program manager for these neighborhood revitalization plans. Working closely with the Office of Design, the Office of the Mayor and several City operating departments, the Project Manager will be responsible for the execution of these plans by managing the processes and facilitating the coordination needed to keep the projects on track.
The Project Manager II or III should have a broad knowledge of community development and be familiar with the execution of complex capital projects. Excellent project management and communication skills are essential. The successful candidate must be a pro-active and creative problem solver.
