Listing Summary

Hahira, a progressive city of approximately 3200 residents and 50 city employees is accepting applications for the hire of a Police Chief. Applicant should have a bachelor’s degree and experience in one or more of the following areas: political science, criminology, or criminal justice.  Applicant must be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well-organized and capable of functioning effectively in a highly independent situation.  Applicant must possess excellent written communication, public relation and supervisory skills, and the ability to interact effectively with citizens, developers, business owners, property owners, and other employees.  Applicant will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal regulations relating to above areas. The ideal candidate has served 10 years in a police department, including 5 years as a Lieutenant, Captain or higher.  The candidate must also possess a Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST) certification, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year.  Necessary experience is also the completion of executive management or equivalent training (e.g. FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Police Executive Research Foundation, etc.)  Applicant must also possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.  The position is full time working 40 hours per week. The Police Chief is appointed by the City Council, but works under the supervision of the Mayor and City Manager.
