The City of Hinesville is the seat of Liberty County and is located forty miles southwest of Savannah. The city is adjacent to Fort Stewart, making it home to the 3rd Infantry Division. The Hinesville Police Department has over 90 certified officers and 25 support staff members serving the citizens of our community. The mission of the Hinesville Police Department is to provide professional law enforcement services to all citizens of Hinesville.
Under general supervision of the City Manager, the Chief of Police is responsible for directing the operations of the Hinesville Police Department, including coordinating the internal and external activities of the department to ensure the safety and protection of life and property. The purpose of the position is to implement short and long-range goals for the department and establish priorities and deadlines for improving law enforcement services. Successful performance in this position assures the smooth operation of the department and adequate delivery of police services and enhances the public’s image of the City of Hinesville.
The minimum qualifications of the position include a bachelor’s degree in Criminal justice, Political Science, Public Administration or Business Administration with 7-10 years of progressive experience in law enforcement administration. Knowledge required in local, state and federal criminal and civil law, human resources management and supervisory techniques, and police administration in all areas applicable to city government. Must be P.O.S.T. certified.
Minimum starting salary is $90,693.27 plus an excellent benefits package. The position closes on February 19, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
