As a Plans Examiner, you will review plans, specifications, calculations, and designs submitted for construction, alteration, or repair of buildings and structures for compliance with applicable City and State codes and standards. You will also set up and maintain computer-aided systems for monitoring work in progress.

YOUR NEW ROLE:
Review plans to ensure that building components (foundations, framing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, energy conservation, life safety, and considerations for the physically challenged) meet the requirements of City building codes, zoning codes, and acceptable City construction practices.
Confer with architects, engineers, owners, contractors, and the general public on all current building or technical code requirements, and City/County/State law for a particular building type or construction compliance.
Receive and process plan review requests; write a detailed report for customers to obtain code compliance.
Perform data entry and operate permitting software system.
Verify the accuracy of project description in permitting software, based on plans; edits if necessary. Edit lists of Required Inspections based on specifics of plans. Indicates which trade work the project involves.
Serve as a relief building inspector, and plans route and field activities or tests as needed
Observe site conditions and enforce all City building regulations, ordinances, and codes.
Issue Stop Work Order when construction, has not been properly permitted, sites are perilous, or violations have not been corrected and/or construction continued beyond an approved point.
Learn new construction standards, methods, and materials approved by various regulatory agencies, and communicates this information to the building community and the public.
Perform routine preventative maintenance and upkeep of assigned department vehicles.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
