This position is responsible for directing the city’s public safety operations.



  • Responds to complex fire, police calls and other emergency calls
  • Prepares annual department budgets and controls the expenditure of departmental funds
  • Develops and implements department policies and procedures
  • Develops and implements community and crime prevention programs
  • Attends meetings and public gatherings to explain the activities and functions of the department
  • Supervises and participates in the training of department personnel
  • Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel
  • Develops and implements department long and short term plans
  • Enforces department policies and procedures
  • Directs the maintenance of department vehicles and equipment
  • Resolves citizen questions, complaints and concerns.
  • Attends City Council meetings
  • Attends professional conferences
  • Review and approve reports
  • Performs related duties
