Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in the management of the records and financial accounts of the City.


Major Duties

  • Posts general ledger entries for payroll and utility accounts and general and special revenue fund accounts.
  • Prepares adjusting entries.
  • Prepares vouchers and bank deposits.
  • Generates financial statements.
  • Reconciles monthly bank statements for all accounts.
  • Assists with an investment of idle funds.
  • Installs maintains, and updates accounting software.
  • Prepares monthly closing of all general ledgers; checks balances and prints reports.
  • Prepares monthly charge-back and wage reports.
  • Codes and enters daily cash receipts.
  • Maintains grant invoices and reimbursement records.
  • Performs internal audit functions; implements internal control procedures and guidelines; assists external auditors as requested.
  • Sets up new funds, account codes, and line items for computer entry.
  • Maintains monthly fuel and garage inventory records; charges and records amounts used to all city departments.
  • Maintains vendor list; prepares annual tax forms.
  • Prepares financial reports required by the city, state, and other government agencies; prepares various reports as requested by the City Manager.
  • Assists with preparation of annual city budget; compiles statistical data; provides revenue and expense projections; provides info on long-range plans.
  • Assists in budget management by monitoring program allocations and expenditures.
  • Gathers financial information relevant to applications for state and federal funds.
  • Maintains petty cash fund.
  • Performs general office duties.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
