DEPARTMENT: Public Works
ENTRY SALARY: $14.10 per hour, no benefits
JOB SUMMARY: This position performs unskilled, manual work and grounds-keeping of county streets/roads, drainage systems, and public facilities. Performs routine maintenance and upkeep of public grounds and facilities. Mows lawns, trims and edges grass, blows/rakes leaves from walkways; plants/prunes/maintains plants, trees and shrubs. Responds to emergency calls as needed; clears trees and debris following storms or other emergency situations. Receives, reviews, prepares, processes, and completes various forms and documentation; reads maps and diagrams as needed. Flags traffic at work sites. Transports, loads, and unloads materials and equipment used in projects. Uses GPS to navigate to various locations. Assists in setting up special events/activities; assists with traffic control during event and cleanup after event. Maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, and tools as needed; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment. Operates a variety of hand and power tools; operates some power equipment and machinery; utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and others. Performs related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Flagging Certification.
