The City of Hinesville is accepting applications for an Accounting Technician in the finance department.  This position performs a variety of technical accounting functions in support of city finance operations, and is responsible for reviewing, inputting, and processing accounts payable invoices semi-monthly for the City of Hinesville, the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority (HDDA) and the Liberty Consolidated Planning Commission (LCPC). 

 

Major duties include:

  • Distributes invoices to appropriate departments for coding and approval and ensures vendors have completed necessary information required.
  • Reconciles invoices and purchase orders, processes invoices for payment and prepares accounts payable checks.
  • Reviews payment for proper authorization, adequate budget to pay and reasonable account coding; submits checks to vendors (by mail, ACH, or pickup).
  • Uploads ACH and positive pay file; files invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Serves as wireless services liaison for the City of Hinesville, HDDA and LCPC.
  • Processes requisitions for the City of Hinesville and HDDA for all items requiring a purchase order as defined in the City’s purchasing policy.

 

Knowledge required by the position include:

  • Knowledge of general accounting and bookkeeping practices.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws as related to accounting and auditing functions.
  • Knowledge of computerized systems for maintaining financial records.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records and preparing reports.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in utilizing such modern office equipment as a computer, typewriter, calculator, fax machine and copier.
  • Skill in oral and written communication and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to organize work for maximum efficiency.

 

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and two to five years’ experience or service in the field.  The minimum starting salary for the position is $37,283.42 plus an excellent benefits package.  The position closes May 12, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
