Harris County, Georgia, with a population of 36,000 and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus, is accepting applications for an Animal Control Officer for the Animal Control department.  This full-time position is responsible for the enforcement of animal control ordinances and for the processing and care of shelter animals.  Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

HSD or GED; two years related experience; possess valid driver's license. Must possess Georgia Correctional Officer I certification at minimum security or ability to obtain same within 6 months of hire (to supervise and work with inmates). Duties include investigation of complaints, capture and handle domestic animals; issues warnings and citations; prepare case reports; testify in court as required; intake animals, vaccinate and deworm animals; enter data into computer database; schedule and transport animals to vet appointments; work with humane societies and animal rescue groups; receive and process animal complaints; maintains animal complaint files & records. Knowledge of ordinances, animal enforcement principles, computers & job-related software programs. This position reports to the Public Works Director.
