JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                                                         

This position is responsible for maintenance and administrator of the city’s network and server infrastructure.

MAJOR DUTIES                                                                                                                                                                            

  •   Manages the city’s server infrastructure to ensure availability.
  •   Manages the city’s network infrastructure, including fiber network, VPNs, and wireless networks.
  •   Manages the city’s cloud collaboration and communication platform.
  •   Monitors daily operations and administration of the department’s IT systems.
  •   Manages the city’s voice-over-IP (VOIP) telephone system.
  •   Manages, installs, and apply security patches and updates to software and operating systems.
  •   Responds to IT trouble tickets.
  •   Maintains the city’s security camera infrastructure, including cameras, servers, and storage systems.
  •   Writes and maintains custom scripts to increase system efficiency.
  •   Documents the city’s IT infrastructure, operations, and software.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION                                                                                                                                                                           

  •   Knowledge of networking protocols.
  •   Knowledge of servers and computers.
  •   Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
  •   Knowledge of the relevant local, state, and federal laws.
  •   Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  •   Skill in managing telephony systems.
  •   Skill in the use of network tools.
  •   Skill in the preparation of complex reports.
  •   Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS                                                                                                                                                                               

The Director of Information Technology assigns work in terms of department goals and directives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities.

GUIDELINES                                                                                                                                                                               

Guidelines include CJIS regulations, HIPAA rules, CIS control, PCI regulations, Georgia Open Records Law, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK                                                                                                                                                                               

  • The work consists of various system administration duties. Frequent changes to industry standards contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to manage the city’s IT network and server infrastructure. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of city operations.

  •  Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, consultants, vendors, and members of the general public.
  •  Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to motivate persons, to justify or settle matters, or to resolve problems.                                                                       

  PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  •  The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy   objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  •  The work is typically performed in an o•ffice and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field or more than five years of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties.
  • Successfully pass extensive background, credit history, and driver’s history checks.
  • Must successfully pass post-offer drug screening.
