Position Title: Equipment Operator/Truck Driver
Classification: Fulltime
Department: Public Works, City of Cartersville
Job Summary: This position is responsible for operating equipment to construct, maintain and improve streets and drainage systems.
Major Duties:
- Operates heavy equipment such as bulldozer, motor grader, track loader, and gradall to construct, maintain and improve streets and drainage systems.
- Operates equipment such a front-end loader, compact excavator and backhoe.
- Operates a dump truck.
- Operates a lowboy to transport equipment from work sites.
- Hauls various materials such as dirt, sand, gravel, and asphalt to crews, job sites, and work locations.
- Drives and operates specialized street cleaning equipment such as broom trucks and flusher trucks.
- Cleans all catch basins.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools such as a jack hammer and chainsaw.
- Removes leaves from and salts roads as season and weather dictate.
- Assists in traffic control at work sites.
- Assists in the installation of storm drainage systems.
- Operates roadside mower, brush truck, and junk truck, as needed.
- Performs routine maintenance such as lubrication and checking air, oil, water and other fluids.
- Clears brush and debris from storm drains.
- Salts roads as needed.
- Patches potholes and utility cuts with asphalt.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Knowledge of city policies and procedures pertaining to street and drainage system construction, maintenance, and improvement.
- Knowledge of achieving grade, drainage, and proper compaction.
- Skill in operating equipment such as motor grader, bulldozer, dump truck, gradall, rubber tire loader, and backhoe.
- Skill in performing preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Skill in street and drainage system construction techniques.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of a valid CDL Class A driver's license issued by the State of Georgia
