JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for leading recreation programs at the Kedron Fieldhouse.

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises and monitors all activities at the Kedron facility, including open gym, classes, open swim, meetings, league activities, and special events.
  • Ensures that the Kedron facility is ready for league and/or open gym activities.
  • Enforces all applicable City, Fieldhouse, and league rules and regulations. 
  • Monitors the security of the building/field and the safety of all participants and attendees.
  • Assists customers; enrolls patrons into classes when necessary, provides information, and resolves problems.
  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; takes messages; refers to appropriate personnel.
  • Reserves facilities and collects related fees.
  • Assists with rescheduling classes as needed; assists with scheduling programs and special events.
  • Checks patron identification to verify residency.
  • When necessary, assists scorekeepers with league activities. 
  • Coordinates with other City departments after normal business hours as needed.
  • Opens and closes the facility and/or ball field.
  • Reconciles cash drawer.
  • Assists youth and adult sports associations and groups.
  • Performs janitorial and light maintenance duties as needed.
  • Assists with special events.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of City and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the provision of customer services.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The General Programs Coordinator assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include sports organization guidelines, fieldhouse and aquatic center rules, and City and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related program leadership, customer service, and administrative duties.  Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to lead assigned program operations at the Kedron Fieldhouse. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, volunteers, program participants, and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office, a recreation facility, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has functional supervision over assigned personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
