Planner 

The City of Norcross is looking for a full-time Planner. This position is responsible for providing professional planning support for the Community Development Department. The purpose of this position is to provide Planning services to the Community Development Department. This position will be responsible for providing support for City Boards and Commissions and events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Composes and types a variety of correspondence, forms, reports and records.
  • Responds to requests from developers, contractors, real estate personnel, attorneys and the general public regarding city zoning, land use, and development codes.
  • Receives, directs and resolves requests, inquiries and complaints from the public.
  • Prepares staff reports as needed and assigned; accepts and processes applications; and prepares agendas and minutes, public notices, letters, signs and legal ads and may perform zoning inspections for Certificates of Occupancy/Completion as needed.
  • Responds to questions about the City’s Sustainability Plan and Sustainability Projects
  • Prepares information for public hearings and board meetings.
  • Attends public (evening) meetings.
  • GIS skills and capabilities are required.
  • Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific zoning/planning program areas or ordinances, including information input and map development
  • Prepares public notices or property owner verifications where necessary.
  • Prepares maps, charts, and tables
  • Attends public meetings and events, assisting other development staff as appropriate.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of projects.
  • Responds to Open Records Requests; researches and writes zoning verification letters.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Must be fluent in Spanish language.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • One to five years of experience in GIS, planning, zoning and sustainability initiatives. AICP track candidate is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Scope and Impact:

Job has recurring work situations involving some degree of discretion. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of accepted programs and routines is high. Incumbent operates independently however collaboration is encouraged. Content of work priorities are determined by supervision.

Communications/Customer Contact:

Contacts are typically with co-workers, department heads, other city employees, other governmental entities, developers, engineers, architects, contractors, consultants, attorneys, real estate personnel, vendors, board members and the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services and direct public to appropriate resources.

Job Type: Full-time

Starting Salary $42,532.71 (minimum) up to $55,292.53 (midpoint) based upon qualifications/experience.
