The City of Brookhaven, GA is recruiting for a Public Works Director.  The Public Works Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of the public infrastructure of the City including the traditional areas of public works such as roads, drainage, sidewalks and rights-of-way.  The City is focused on sustainability, multimodal transportation and long-range planning.

The City of Brookhaven is in DeKalb County inside the I-285 Perimeter and shares a border with the City of Atlanta. 

The City has thriving neighborhoods, a healthy mix of retail and restaurants, diverse housing, and is premier community in Metro Atlanta.  Brookhaven is a safe, inviting and engaged community, providing every amenity you would expect from a leading community in metro Atlanta. 

The City has 196 employees across several departments.  The FY 2024 General Fund budget is over $35M and this limited-service municipality provides its residents with a full array of services except for Sanitation, Water & Sewer, and Fire & Rescue, which is provided by DeKalb County.

The Public Works Director reports directly to the City Manager and is a key member of the leadership team.  The rest of the Public Works Department (10 FTE) are contractors as part of a public-private partnership.  The City of Brookhaven is a unique place and has a dynamic culture that that relies on outstanding leaders to provide exceptional service.   It is uncommon for the City to have a leadership team vacancy and therefore this is a special opportunity to join an experienced and innovative team.

The position requires the successful candidate to meet the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and possession of an advanced degree from an accredited institution or a blend of educational background and practical experience that underscores the ability to excel in the role of Public Works Director

 

  • Georgia Professional Engineer Certification required at the time of hire – for out of State candidates, a Georgia certification within 6 months of hire.

 

The hiring range for this position is up to $180,920 depending on experience.
