Finance Director

Brooks County, Georgia, population 16,500 and located in south Georgia along the Florida border adjacent to Valdosta, the I-75 corridor, and Moody AFB, is accepting applications for a Finance Director. Brooks County is a rural county known for being a significant agricultural producer of pecans, beef and dairy cows, cotton, soybeans, peanuts, and cucumbers. The county enjoys stable political leadership and a healthy fund balance. This full-time position, under the direction of the County Administrator, is responsible for:

• Managing the day-to-day operations of the county's financial system using Edmunds financial software.
• Supervising two full-time employees.
• Coordinating financial activities with other elected and appointed officials.
• Assisting the County Administrator with preparing and monitoring the $20M annual budget.
• Preparing financial statements and assisting the auditor with the annual audit.
• Preparing required financial reports.
• Managing investments.
• Assisting the County Administrator with overseeing various outsourced service contracts including Information Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Fleet Management, Road Department, Payroll, and Solid Waste collection/disposal.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, 3-5 years of experience in local government financial management, knowledge of modern public administration financial management/fund accounting, GASB rules, employee supervision and development, and budget preparation and control, along with computer skills, excellent customer service skills, and possession of a valid driver's license.

The starting salary ranges from $75,000 to $85,000 DOQ, plus generous benefits including a five-year vesting schedule for a defined benefit retirement plan.
