The City of Lawrenceville, Georgia is seeking a new Electric Director who is ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the position in a diverse and growing community. Lawrenceville was established in 1821 and serves as the county seat of Gwinnett County, Georgia. It is a suburb of Atlanta, located approximately 30 miles northeast of downtown with a population of approximately 31,000. The City is governed by a council-manager form of government. The City Council determines the city policies, and the City Manager is then responsible for city operations and execution of the set policies.
Lawrenceville seeks a dedicated professional to oversee the construction and maintenance the City’s electric distribution system serving more than 12,000 customers daily. This includes overall system analysis, infrastructure improvements, and coordinating with consultants, engineers, contractors, developers, and other utilities regarding existing and future projects impacting the City’s electric infrastructure and system improvements. The Electric Director provides leadership and direction to the department in the areas of electric distribution safety, engineering, construction and maintenance, reliability, service restoration, and operation of all electric utility infrastructure owned and/or operated by the City of Lawrenceville.
Lawrenceville is seeking a candidate adept at developing leaders and managing projects aligned with City goals, with strong leadership, team-building, and multitasking skills. Must have a thorough knowledge of electrical systems, substation operations, and regulatory compliance. Expertise in public administration, budgeting, contract management, and familiarity with electric infrastructure and design is important. The ideal candidate should be able to manage the Electric Department operations in a challenging work environment that requires attention to detail and the ability to exercise self-control when stressful situations present themselves. He/she should have previous government experience successfully promoting a culture of team building within their organization and actively listening in a manner that values staff input while holding them accountable for job performance.

Candidate Qualifications:
The expected starting salary range for this position is $121,000 – $145,000 (depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate), with a comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision, and dental insurance. The Electric Director position includes a City-provided vehicle or car allowance and paid time off (PTO). The City provides free short-term disability, long-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D), and life insurance. The City’s generous retirement plan provides a 4% contribution to the plan with an additional 6% contribution match if the employee also contributes 4%. Relocation expenses negotiable.
