Solid Waste Director – Harris County
Harris County, Georgia, population 36,000 and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta, 30 minutes north of Columbus, and home to Callaway Resort and Gardens and FDR State Park, is accepting applications for a Solid Waste Director for the County. This full-time position, under the direction of the County Manager, supervises the collection of residential and commercial solid waste on a weekly, county-wide (including municipalities), curbside basis using county employees and state inmate labor. The department also operates three manned collections sites, an inert waste landfill, and maintains the permanently closed landfill. The collected solid waste is transported by a third party from the county’s transfer station to a private landfill under contract. The department has 16 full-time positions and an annual budget of $3.1M. This position will:
Minimum qualifications include at least four years of experience in the solid waste career field in a supervisory capacity, knowledge of solid waste management, closed landfill operations, employee supervision and development, knowledge of budget preparation and control, computer skills, excellent customer service skills, and possession of a valid driver’s license.
The starting salary is $76,126.40 annually, plus generous benefits including and a five-year vesting schedule for retirement.
