CLASSIFICATION TITLE: PROJECT MANAGER/ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to identify, evaluate, prepare for, and manage major County-wide development interest in unincorporated Clayton County as well as in our partner cities. The Economic Development Project Manager position requires a flexible, team-player who will provide business recruitment, retention and expansion services, manage projects, work with local stakeholders, and conduct existing industry visits. Position will directly apply knowledge of local and state economic development policies and tools specific to Clayton County and Georgia as an integral member of the Office of Economic Development team, this position reports directly to the Economic Development Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Provide complete project management services for assigned special projects within the Office of Economic Development, including project research and marketing.

Support Existing and planned program activities involving making Industry Visits, troubleshooting issues, providing Business Advocacy, making presentations to the Board of Commissioners when needed, respond to RFIs from State Project Managers and State Utility Managers, Make business retention visits, and marketing initiatives.

Act as Project Lead as assigned by the Director of the Office of Economic Development.

Proactively seek out opportunities that promote Economic Development, revitalization, and development throughout the County.

Represent the office at various trade shows, networking events and public outreach events.


ADDITONAL FUNCTIONS


Attend various meetings as required. Performs other related duties as required.

Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, and ratios; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Business, English, Public Administration, Finance, Economic Development or closely related field; supplemented by five (5) years of related experience in business, economic development, marketing, public relations or research; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and be able to complete County Defensive Driving training. Must possess or be able to acquire US Passport for international travel. May be required to work flexible hours and to travel when needed. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CoStar property database a plus.

Physical Ability:
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (40-50 pounds) for trade shows and marketing events.Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard, work station, or standing in booths at shows and/or events.


Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
