Job Title: Wastewater Plant Lead

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the role of Wastewater Plant Lead. As the Wastewater Plant Lead, you will oversee the daily operations of our wastewater treatment facility, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our processes. You will lead a team of operators, technicians, and support staff, coordinating their efforts to achieve operational excellence and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Leadership: Direct and supervise all aspects of wastewater treatment plant operations, including monitoring equipment, optimizing processes, and troubleshooting issues to ensure uninterrupted plant functionality.
  2. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing wastewater treatment and discharge, including maintaining accurate records, submitting required reports, and implementing necessary corrective actions.
  3. Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of operators, technicians, and support staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  4. Maintenance and Repair: Coordinate maintenance activities, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment repairs to minimize downtime and maximize the lifespan of plant assets.
  5. Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure the treated wastewater meets quality standards and is safe for discharge or reuse, conducting regular sampling and analysis as necessary.
  6. Budget and Resource Management: Assist in the development of operating budgets, monitor expenditures, and manage resources efficiently to achieve operational goals while controlling costs.
  7. Emergency Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, participate in emergency drills and exercises, and respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or incidents at the plant.
  8. Communication and Collaboration: Liaise with regulatory agencies, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders as necessary, representing the plant's interests and fostering positive relationships within the community.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field (preferred).
  2. 5+ years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  3. Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
  4. Experience supervising and leading a diverse team of professionals in a unionized environment.
  5. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  6. Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), SCADA systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Possession of relevant certifications, such as Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification, is highly desirable.
  8. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and respond to emergencies as needed.
