Human Resources Clerk (Seasonal/Part-Time)

Listing Summary

This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of administrative support duties within the City’s Human Resources Department. This seasonal/part-time position is for 24 weeks with a maximum of 30 hours per week. This position reports to the Human Resources Director.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

            Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in administering new hires and terminations; assists with preparing for employee orientation and benefits enrollment.
  • Assists in posting internal and external position notices.
  • Assists employees with pay and benefits questions.
  • Assists with screening job applications and resumes.
  • Assists with the maintenance of employee records.
  • Assists with the maintenance of a variety of complex and confidential records and filing systems for the department; includes scanning and electronic filing.
  • Assists with processing employment verification requests.
  • Helps maintain office supply inventory; assist in making purchases as needed.
  • Assists with creating and distributing documents.
  • Assists with scheduling job interviews and assists with the interview process.
  • Assists in updating and developing job descriptions.
  • Performs clerical duties such as preparing correspondence/reports, presentations, filing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing documents.
  • Performs receptionist duties such as greeting and assisting customers, answering and directing phone calls, and taking messages.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

 Knowledge of

  • Customer service principles.
  • Applicable hardware, software, and peripheral devices;
  • Basic office principles and equipment;
  • City and departmental policies and procedures;
  • Bookkeeping principles

Skill in

  • Providing excellent customer service;
  • Organizing and handling a variety of assignments simultaneously;
  • Prioritizing work and meeting deadlines;
  • Operating a computer, printer and applicable software;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. with two years of general office or secretarial experience, preferably in municipal government or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
