The City of Tucker, GA is recruiting for a Deputy Parks and Recreation Director.  The Deputy Director is responsible for assisting the Parks and Recreation Director to manage an extensive chain of command to include recreation programming, athletics, maintenance and administrative duties. This role will work in close coordination with the City Manager’s office to maximize opportunities for the community to benefit from the City’s well-resourced parks and recreation infrastructure.

Tucker represents the best of what metro Atlanta has to offer. MainStreet is a dynamic hub of activity with shops, restaurants and greenspaces.  The parks system comprises over 280 acres and includes playing fields, aquatics and connections to existing and newly planned trails.

 

Community-organized street festivals like Tucker Day and the Tucker Cruise-in, along with monthly City-led events like Adult Field Day, the annual Sip&Stroll, and award-winning Tucker Restaurant Weekend ensures fun weekends and activities throughout the year.  Tucker has a strong sense of community spirit and civic pride and is committed to supporting engagement efforts for the 38,000+residents that have chosen Tucker as their home.

The leadership of the Department is led by Parks and Recreation Director, Carlton (Rip) Robertson, supported by nearly 28 full and part-time employees and 70 seasonal.  The Department manages a large recreation center, an aquatics program, athletics, social programming in the parks and maintains over 280 acres of parks.  The approved departmental budget for FY 25 is $6,000,000

This position will be counted on to assist the Director in close coordination with the City Manager’s office to seamlessly manage the operations and personnel in this Department. The position requires the successful candidate to meet the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Business Administration or related field, Masters preferred
•  Seven (7) years of experience in recreation or park related position with five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in recreation or park related position
• Required Certifications:
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)
  • Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
  • CPR and First Aid certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
• Desired certifications:
  • Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE)

 

The hiring range for this position is from $91,526 - $95,000.  The range is currently under a management review.
