Job Summary:

This is a highly responsible professional position that includes administrative and managerial work related to planning, organizing, and directing the activities of Community Development. The Director of Community Development is a management employee and shall have the responsibilities as stated below.

The Director of Community Development is responsible for the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), and the Planning Commission the Director is also responsible for managing the permit office, the city planner the zoning administrator and GIS. The Director shall make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council related to businesses, development, and planning.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree, Master's Degree preferred, from an accredited College or University in Community Development, Planning, Public Administration, or related fields. At least five years' experience in a progressively responsible position, with at least two years of community Development experience.

Major Duties:

  • Develops, maintains, and updates the Community Development Department's long- and short-range development goals.
  • Develops and coordinates economic development strategies and activities and creates promotional materials.
  • Enforces the Zoning and Building Codes and introduces amendments as needed.
  • Creates and maintains an inventory of vacancies in commercial and industrial properties in the community and develops strategies to decrease vacancies within the City.
  • Works with private businesses and public agencies to enhance the economic viability within the community.
  • Comply with all City Policies, Protocols, and Procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
