Spalding County has immediate openings for Certified Firefighters and is taking applications for Non-Certified Firefighters for our next Rookie School. Pay starts at $45,750. We do not require our Firefighters to be EMT certified, but we offer additional pay for EMT, Paramedic and/or a College degree. Our own Chief Mike Byrd was named the 2022 Fire Chief of the Year and Chief Glenn Polk was named the Emergency Management Director of the year in November 2023. We are a progressive department, operating the newest equipment.
Duties: Under general supervision, responds to emergency calls and fights/suppresses fires. Duties include: responding to fire/rescue/medical emergency calls, driving/operating fire apparatus, controlling/extinguishing fires, providing basic life support to sick/injured persons, and maintaining department stations and equipment.
Minimum Training and Qualifications: Certified Firefighter I or II. Firefighter I must certify as Firefighter II within 6 months of employment. Must obtain at least a Class F driver’s permit within 4 months from date of hire. Must possess a valid Class F driver’s license or obtain one within 6 months of employment. Must obtain a Basic Life Support certification within 6 months of employment. Shall have a good work history and a good driving record – no DUI within the last 5 years. State law requires no felony convictions within the past 10 years.
