Listing Summary

The purpose of this position is to help GMA member cities improve municipal governance and operations by providing a range of consulting and educational services; enhance member awareness of and member participation in GMA programs, services and resources; build relationships with municipal officials and staff; and plan and execute GMA district meetings and serve as a district representative in coordination with district officers.  This position will service GMA Districts 4 and 8.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides municipal elected officials, city managers/administrators, city clerks, finance officers and other key staff with advice and assistance related to municipal governance and operations, as well as information about services and resources available through GMA, state and federal agencies, professional associations and other organizations.

Works with GMA team members to plan, prepare and deliver workshops, training courses, symposiums, webinars, online tutorials, conference sessions, publications and other educational programs that promote recommended municipal policies and practices.

Works with GMA team members to develop and implement strategies to ensure that member cities are aware of and compliant with state and federal laws and regulations.

Responds to information requests and inquiries from city officials.

Makes presentations at city council meetings and various conferences, workshops and training programs.

As requested, and when feasible, performs short-term contract consulting reviews for member cities.

Assists in providing staff support to the Association’s Member Services Advisory Council.

Assists in identifying, evaluating and developing new or enhanced GMA services aimed at helping member cities operate more efficiently and effectively and promoting such services to members.

Works closely with GMA risk management and employee benefits team members to promote RMEBS programs and resources available to member cities.

Encourages city officials to actively engage in GMA’s legislative policy development and advocacy efforts and assists the Association’s Governmental Relations staff in assessing the impact of proposed legislation on municipal operations.

Meets with municipal elected officials and staff to encourage their engagement in GMA activities and acquaint them with the Association’s programs and services with the goal of participation in such programs and services.

Represents GMA at various professional association meetings, conferences and workshops to build relationships with attendees and educate them about GMA programs and services.

Serves as staff liaison with district officers in designated districts and works with district officers to plan and execute GMA district meetings.

Collaborates with appropriate GMA staff to learn about and market each GMA service and program and periodically review and update informational materials about GMA services and programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field; five years experience in local government administration; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities for the job.  Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.
