JOB SUMMARY

The Wastewater Operator learns and applies the operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Learns the complete operations of the wastewater treatment plant.    
  • Monitors and maintains performance of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment process.
  • Records and keeps a maintenance log of all equipment and machines at the plant.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all equipment.
  • Assists in inspecting all valves, pumps, and plant equipment.
  • Assists in changing and scrubbing filters, tanks, clarifiers, bar screens, and UV system.
  • Prepares inspection sheets, logs, and flow charts, maintains records, and enters data to the computer.
  • Performs routine cleaning of all equipment and machinery and work areas.
  • Collects wastewater samples for standard tests, such as biochemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen, total suspended solids, fecal Coliform, and pH.
  • Assists and performs all laboratory analysis with the Wastewater Superintendent for the Federal EPD and the State EPD.
  • Operates belt press and communicates with waste disposal services.
  • Assists in the installation of water and sewer mains as needed.
  • Performs other related administrative duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.  At a minimum a Wastewater Operator Class III, Wastewater Operator Class II, or a Wastewater Operator Class I State License within two (2) years of employment or attaining the position.

Special Requirements: 

This position may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends to respond to emergency issues.

 

Salary:  $27.27 per hour
