The Town of Alto is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Police Chief.

The Town of Alto, Georgia, is a small Northeast Georgia Town situated on the Banks County and Habersham County line. Our population is approximately 1200 and we have an authorized full-time staff of 8 with part-time staff up to 20. We are a community-oriented town with a couple of festivals each year.
Position Summary
Listing Summary: The Assistant Chief of Police is responsible for leading, planning, managing, directing, and overseeing all internal and external functions of the Police Department. The ideal candidate will be community-minded and fiscally responsible. Administratively, the Assistant Chief must be able to develop, defend, and manage the department’s annual capital and operating budgets, develop policies and procedures for law enforcement and crime prevention, direct and oversee the training of officers, and oversee the proper management of department personnel and schedules. The Assistant Chief is expected to engage the community and its citizens and oversee public relations opportunities to that end. This position is a working position, and the Assistant Chief may fill in when needed at other positions.
Qualifications
(8) Eight to ten (10) years of experience in police work as a certified officer with a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience as a Sergeant or higher with a similar agency or larger is preferred. A candidate with a college degree is preferred.
Candidates should have completed on-going law enforcement or related training either within an established college degree program or through law enforcement training schools, such as the FBI National Academy, LEEDA or Northwestern. Certification by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) is required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess other specialty certifications.

Base salary is Dependent on Qualifications plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes a take home vehicle; paid time off; medical, dental, and vision coverage (Town pays 100% of premium); and life insurance. The Town’s insurance provider is Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield for all the coverages. Employees may also participate in a retirement savings plan, with the Town matching up to 6%. The Town also pays for membership for POAB. The successful candidate must complete a drug screening, background check and voice stress analysis.
